Biography

Maiko Matsuoka (violin)

Maiko Matsuoka graduated from the Toho Gakuen School of Music where she studied with Toshiya Eto, Angela Eto and Kenji Kobayashi. She continued her violin studies in the International Ensemble Modern Academy at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt. 

She has performed in major festivals including Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, Salzburg Festival, Festival Musica Strasbourg, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, June in Buffalo, and Akiyoshidai Contemporary Music Seminar & Festival. 

With the Trio Steuermann, two CDs have been released by a French label Editions Hortus: “A Long Voyage: Works for Solo Piano and Chamber Music by Pierre Wissmer” and “Transfigured Night” that presents works by Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern and the young German composer Johannes Boris Borowski. 

She won the second Prize at the "Kyogaku Ⅺ" of the 11th Contemporary Music Performance Competition founded by Japan Society for Contemporary Music.

The focus of her performing career is on contemporary music, and in this capacity she has premiered many new works. She is a member of the Phidias Trio Tokyo (clarinet, violin and piano) and Ensemble Toneseek.
